My Story
Bethany has been passionate about Bible translation since high school. She was saved at a young age and during elementary school began to believe that God was leading her into missions. During high school, she became acquainted with missionaries working with Bibles International, who exposed her to the great need for Bible translation. Watching a video of a group of believers receive Bibles in their heart language for the first time cemented her desire and sense of God’s leading to pursue a ministry of translation. Behtnay earned a bachelor’s degree in Cross-Cultural Studies with a focus in Biblical language and a master’s degree in Intercultural Studies with a focus in Bible translation from Bob Jones University. During her time in school, she completed two internships with Bibles International that served to further confirm her calling to be a translation consultant.
My Ministry
A Chadian village leader refused to let his people hear the Bible spoken in the trade language of Sango. When missionaries came with the Bible translated in his language, he listened and said, “I know that God knows our language, and therefore he knows us, too.” Just like this man whose story is found in The Lord Gave the Word by Elaine Schulte, millions of people around the world do not have access to a Bible in their heart language. Christians in many different places may have some access to a Bible in a common trade language, but they are unable to read the Scriptures in the language they would speak at home. When a person cannot see that God speaks his heart language, it is very difficult to evangelize the lost and disciple new believers. As a translation consultant, Bethany will work with national translators of a specific language group, helping them translate the Bible into their heart language.
